Our Teachers

Leanne Moyer (Owner) – Piano, Voice, Ukulele, Group Classes, Daycare Classes

Leanne has been teaching music for over 25 years. She began her music education with violin lessons at the age of 3. She switched to piano lessons at age 10 and completed her Grade 10 RCM. Then in high school Leanne got involved with the school choir, worship team, ladies ensembles and vocal lessons. Her love for singing led her to complete her Grade 9 RCM in Voice. She also played clarinet, alto saxophone and jazz piano in the school bands. Leanne loves teaching all ages and abilities! Leanne also holds a Degree in Psychology. She has worked as a Behaviour Interventionist and Respite Care Coordinator. She loves working with children and spent many years volunteering as a Girl Guide Leader. In her spare time, Leanne loves travelling, hiking, camping, cooking and spending time with her husband and 3 children. 

 

Jay Porteous – Guitar, Voice

Jay has over 10 years of performance experience and holds two diploma’s from Selkirk College of Music in Nelson. She has the capability to play many genres, but favours rock, metal, pop, and punk. She is a well-rounded electric and acoustic guitarist whose goal is to provide each student with the necessary skills, knowledge, and understanding to be a successful guitarist. Jay also took singing lessons, was involved in choirs, and sang and played guitar in various musical productions. Jay has experience singing classical, pop, rock and musical theatre. She excels in finding different ways to make learning fun and interactive for students, as well as providing opportunities to cultivate innovation and creativity during lessons. Her extensive knowledge of theory, vocal anatomy, guitar techniques, guitar effects/tone, and stage presence is just the beginning of what she has to offer. 

Maya Prodger – Piano, Beginner Voice

Maya began piano lessons at the age of 5 and she has been studying with Leanne at Black Mountain Music School for the past 5 years! She is currently working on her Grade 5 RCM. She also enjoyed singing in the choir in school. Maya is passionate about soccer and was awarded MVP for BC Soccer Provincials, 2025! Maya enjoys staying active in the community with babysitting, pet/housesitting and leadership volunteering opportunities where she helped run elementary school events and City of Kelowna kids’ programs. 

Joanne Hortensius – Mobile Piano

Joanne started piano lessons at the age of 7. She continued studying for many years and received her ARCT in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Joanne also enjoyed singing in numerous church, school, and community choirs. Joanne has been teaching piano and theory for almost 30 years and has prepared students for examinations in both the Royal Conservatory of Music and Conservatory Canada curriculum. Joanne loves teaching music and has known that this is what she has always wanted to do from the very first piano lesson she taught!

 

Diane Watson – Substitute Teaching

Diane has enjoyed playing piano all of her life! Diane has her Grade 8 Royal Conservatory and was an RCM Facilitator for exams for many years. Diane has her Bachelor of Education and taught music in a classroom setting for 10 years (including band) and also taught piano out of her home studio in Alberta. Diane especially loves teaching beginner students and is very kind, patient and playful!
